Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using sonrify.in or the Sonrify application ("the Service"), you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms apply to all visitors, waitlist subscribers, and app users.

We may update these Terms at any time. We will indicate the date of the latest revision at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

2. About Sonrify

Sonrify is an Android application that converts PDF documents into AI-generated audio narrations. It is developed by Debasish Marndi and Saina Parween, two independent developers based in India. These Terms are entered into between you and the individual developers of Sonrify.

3. Eligibility

By using this Service, you represent that you are at least 13 years of age (or 18 where required by local law), have legal capacity to agree to these Terms, and are not prohibited by applicable law from using this Service. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

4. Permitted use

You may use the Service only for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes and strictly in accordance with these Terms.

5. Prohibited conduct

You agree NOT to:

• Upload PDFs that contain illegal content, hate speech, child sexual abuse material, or content that violates any applicable law
• Upload PDFs that you do not have the legal right to reproduce or process (e.g. commercially licensed documents where processing is prohibited)
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the app or website
• Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the Service in any unauthorised manner
• Attempt to bypass, disable, or interfere with any security features of the Service
• Reproduce, sell, or redistribute the Service or any output from the Service for commercial purposes without our written permission
• Use the Service to develop a competing product
• Misrepresent yourself or impersonate any person or entity
• Engage in any conduct that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, or fraudulent

6. User-uploaded content and copyright

When you upload a PDF to Sonrify, you represent and warrant that:

• You own the document or have a lawful right to reproduce and process its contents
• Uploading and processing the document through Sonrify does not infringe any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property right of any third party
• The document does not contain illegal or harmful content

You are solely responsible for the content of documents you upload. We are not liable for any copyright infringement or other legal violation arising from your use of uploaded content. If a third party brings a claim against us based on content you uploaded, you agree to cooperate with us in our defence and to bear any resulting liability.

We do not claim ownership of any content you upload. Uploaded documents are processed solely to provide the Service to you and are not retained longer than necessary for that purpose.

7. AI-generated content disclaimer

All summaries, scripts, and audio narrations generated by Sonrify are produced by artificial intelligence and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. AI-generated content is provided for general informational and personal convenience purposes only. It does not constitute and must not be relied upon as:

• Legal advice or legal interpretation
• Medical or health advice
• Financial or investment advice
• Academic citation or scholarly reference
• Any other form of professional advice

Always refer to the original source document for accuracy. We are not liable for any decisions made or actions taken in reliance on AI-generated output from Sonrify.

8. Waitlist and communications

By joining the waitlist, you consent to receive automated emails from Sonrify including a welcome message and a launch notification. You may unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send or by contacting us on Instagram at @sonrify. Joining the waitlist does not guarantee access to any specific features or a launch by any specific date.

9. Business model — free tier, ads, and subscriptions

We are transparent about how Sonrify sustains itself:

• Free with ads: The core app is and will remain free to download and use, supported by in-app advertising. Advertisements help us cover AI, infrastructure, and development costs.
• Optional subscriptions: We plan to offer optional paid subscription tiers that may provide an ad-free experience and additional features. Pricing, features, and subscription terms will be disclosed clearly before or at launch.
• No manipulative practices: We are committed to fair, transparent monetisation. We will not use dark patterns, forced upgrades, or deceptive pricing.

10. Intellectual property

All content associated with Sonrify — including the name, logo, app design, website design, code, and marketing materials — is the intellectual property of the Sonrify developers and is protected under applicable Indian and international intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you any licence to use our intellectual property. Unauthorised use may result in legal action.

11. Service modifications and availability

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or permanently discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice, and without liability to you. We do not guarantee that the Service will be available at all times or in all regions. Features described on this website represent our current intent and may change during development.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, non-infringement, or security. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, free of viruses, or meet your specific requirements.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Sonrify developers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, loss of business, reputational harm, or reliance on AI-generated content, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any and all claims arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed INR 100 (one hundred Indian rupees), which is the maximum permissible under applicable law for a free service.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Sonrify developers from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third party's rights, including intellectual property rights; or (d) content you upload to the Service.

15. Time limitation on claims

Any claim or cause of action arising from your use of the Service or these Terms must be filed within one (1) year after the event giving rise to the claim, or it shall be permanently barred.

16. Third-party services

The Service integrates the following third-party services to deliver its core functionality:

• Groq API — used for AI processing of PDF content (summarisation, key point extraction, script generation). By using the app, you agree to Groq's terms of service at groq.com/terms-of-use
• Kokoro AI — used for text-to-speech audio narration generation
• Brevo — used for waitlist email management
• Netlify — used for website hosting

We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, content, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party service. If any third-party service becomes unavailable or changes its terms, Sonrify's functionality may be affected and we shall not be liable for any resulting disruption. Your use of these third-party services is also governed by their own respective terms and privacy policies.

Groq data processing notice: When you upload a PDF to Sonrify, the extracted text content of that document is transmitted to Groq's servers for AI processing. You must not upload documents containing sensitive personal data, confidential information, legally privileged content, or any content you are not authorised to share with third-party AI services. You are solely responsible for ensuring you have the right to process any document you upload through Sonrify.

17. Privacy

Your use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy, incorporated into these Terms by reference.

18. Force majeure

We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, government actions, pandemics, internet outages, or failure of third-party infrastructure.

19. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its original intent.

20. Entire agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Sonrify with respect to the Service and supersede all prior agreements, representations, or understandings.

21. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Indian Contract Act, 1872. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of competent courts in India.
